Privacy Policy

This policy describes what information AI Scanner ("the app", "we") collects, how it is used, and your choices. It is written to match exactly what the app does — nothing more, nothing less.

Summary (plain language)

AI Scanner is a local-first app. Your scans, PDFs, history, favorites, and expense records are stored only on your device — we do not operate a server, and nothing you scan is ever uploaded anywhere.

Some data does leave your device, and none of it is your documents:

• Advertising data, collected by Google AdMob to show ads to free-tier users.
• Crash reports and diagnostics, collected by Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can find and fix problems.
• Anonymous usage statistics, collected by Google Analytics for Firebase so we can see which features people actually use.

Each of these is described in detail below.

Information We Collect

Information that stays on your device (never transmitted anywhere)

• Photos and documents you scan or import — processed entirely on-device using Google's ML Kit (on-device text recognition and barcode scanning). Nothing is uploaded to us or to any server.
• Scan history, favorites, PDFs you create, and expense/receipt records — stored locally in the app's private storage on your device.
• App settings (scan quality, OCR language, dashboard preferences, etc.) — stored locally on your device.
• Camera — used only to capture what you choose to scan, in real time. We do not access your camera in the background or without your action.

None of the above is collected by us, seen by us, or shared with anyone — it never leaves your phone unless you personally choose to share a file (e.g., using Android's share sheet to send a PDF to another app).

Information collected for advertising (free-tier users only)

If you use the free version of the app, we show ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use:

• Your advertising ID (a resettable device identifier)
• General device information and approximate technical data (device type, OS version, etc.)
• IP address (used to serve ads and for security/fraud prevention)

This data is collected and processed by Google, not by us directly, in order to show and measure advertising. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other apps/websites. Learn more at Google's Partner Sites policy.

Premium users see no ads and none of this advertising data is collected.

Information collected to keep the app working and improve it

The app uses Google's Firebase services. These operate for all users, including premium users.

Firebase Crashlytics collects information when the app crashes or behaves unexpectedly:

• The technical details of the crash (a stack trace — the sequence of code that failed)
• Device information: model, operating system version, available memory, screen orientation
• App information: version, and how long the app had been running
• A randomly generated installation identifier, so we can tell how many separate devices were affected by a problem rather than only how many reports arrived

Google Analytics for Firebase collects information about how the app is used:

• Which screens are opened and which features are used
• A randomly generated app instance identifier
• General device and country information, derived in part from the IP address of the request

Firebase Remote Config retrieves configuration values from Google so that settings such as free-tier limits can be adjusted without releasing a new version of the app. It sends the installation identifier in order to do this.

Important: none of these services receive the content of your scans, the text extracted from them, the PDFs you create, your QR or barcode results, or your expense records. They receive information about the app and the device, never about what you scanned.

The identifiers above are randomly generated and tied to the app installation, not to you. They are reset if you uninstall the app or clear its data. We do not combine them with your name, email address, or any account, because the app has no accounts.

We do not currently offer an in-app switch to turn crash reporting or analytics off. If you do not wish this information to be collected, the options available to you are to stop using the app or to uninstall it.

Subscription and payment information

AI Scanner offers an optional Pro subscription. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play, which is the seller of record. We never see, receive or store your card details, bank details or billing address — those go to Google and never reach us.

To know whether your device should unlock Pro features, we use RevenueCat, which verifies the purchase with Google on our behalf. RevenueCat receives and stores:

• Which product was purchased (monthly or yearly) and the transaction dates
• The price and currency of the transaction, and the country of purchase
• Whether the subscription is currently active, in a trial, or expired
• An anonymous identifier generated on your device

There is no account and no login. The subscription is tied to your Google account through Google Play, and to an anonymous identifier within RevenueCat. We do not know your name or email address, and we cannot look you up by either.

One practical consequence: because there is no login, the subscription follows the Google account that bought it. Reinstalling the app or moving to a new Android device on the same Google account restores it automatically. Switching to a different Google account does not carry it across.

How We Use Information

• On-device data (scans, history, settings) is used solely to provide the app's features to you, on your device.
• Advertising data (AdMob) is used only to show and measure ads for free-tier users.
• Crash and diagnostic data (Crashlytics) is used only to find, understand and fix faults in the app.
• Usage statistics (Analytics) are used only to understand which features are used, so we can decide what to improve.

We do not sell your information. We do not have servers that store your scans, documents, or personal data. We do not use any of the data above to build a profile of you or to advertise to you outside this app.

Permissions the App Requests

• Camera — to scan documents, QR codes, and barcodes.
• Internet — required to load ads (AdMob), to send crash reports and usage statistics (Firebase), to retrieve configuration values, and to fetch ML Kit model components from Google Play services. The app's own features work without an internet connection.
• Storage (legacy, Android 9 and below only) — a fallback so QR codes can be saved to your device's Pictures folder on very old Android versions; not used on modern Android, which handles this without a permission.

Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google AdMob — advertising, as described above. Google Privacy Policy
• Google Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics. Firebase data handling
• Google Analytics for Firebase — anonymous usage statistics. Firebase data handling
• Google Firebase Remote Config — retrieves configuration values. Firebase data handling
• RevenueCat — verifies subscription purchases with Google and tracks whether a subscription is active. Receives no payment details. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
• Google Play Billing — processes all payments as seller of record. Google Privacy Policy
• Google ML Kit / Google Play services — on-device document scanning, text recognition, and barcode scanning. Processing happens on-device; Google Play services itself operates under Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention and Deletion

Since your scans and data are stored only on your device:

• You can delete individual scans, PDFs, or receipts at any time from within the app.
• You can clear all scan history at once via Settings → "Clear scan history."
• Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all app data stored on your device.
• To reset or limit your advertising ID (used by AdMob), go to your device's Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your Android version.

Crash reports and usage statistics are held by Google on our behalf and are retained according to Google's own retention periods for Firebase. They contain no scanned content and are not linked to any account. Uninstalling the app generates a new installation identifier if you reinstall, so past data cannot be connected to the new installation.

Subscription records are kept for as long as the subscription is active, and afterwards as required for refunds, accounting and tax. Transaction records held by Google Play cannot be deleted on request — Google keeps them as the seller of record under its own retention rules, as it does for every app sold through Google Play.

Children's Privacy

AI Scanner is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app changes (for example, when real in-app purchases are introduced). We will update the effective date above when changes are made. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
